When he told her she would die alone
the lamp light flickered
and she felt the floor in waves.

The West wind came roaring in
and the rain began to pound.
The shaking Maple
stood still and proud
to talk her down.

A creaking beetle chirped
and the lone wolf howled,
“I told you so.
You silly girl,
look at you now.”

She took her breath
and looked around.
She couldn’t find the ground.

The beast will rock and sway you.
It’s warm inside the whale.
He swallowed her whole.
When she woke up from love
the sleeping whale was full.

She was never on the land.
She was just his bait.
Now she is alone again.
Alone and Awake.
